Mermaid In The Sand
Mermaid In The Sand Laura loved going to the beach with her two children, all year round. When the water was much too cold for swimming they would enjoy walking along the nearly deserted beach, perhaps collecting seashells or watching the birds wading at the edge of the surf, They also enjoyed watching the wetsuit-clad surfers riding the waves kicked up by the wind. “Hurry up Kyle! This way!”
“Calm down Hannah!” Kyle called out. “The ocean’s not gonna go anywhere.”
I ignored my friend as I ran on ahead to the port. I was just too excited. A day of exploring in the sea was just what I needed to make summer vacation a perfect paradise. Ever since I was little, I loved the ocean. Swimming around it. The feeling of saltwater on my skin. But my favorite activity of all was deep sea diving. As she did, he saw a shimmering fish tail pop up and slowly sink into the water. "She was a mermaid?!" Sam thought. He turned to his uncle again, "Did you see that girl? I think she's a mer

Gretchen could never believe that, for all of her intelligence and passion, she had fallen into that same trap and found herself drifting towards middle age whilst being trapped in a loveless marriage and living a life that was becoming ever more devoid of meaning with each year that passed.

Intense and thoughtful, very nice oscillation between the past and present nature of the protagonist and a believable decision and conclusion. Would have liked a bit more on her reaction to breathing water, but it's very good, indeed.
