A Mermaid Sabbattical 3 Once the initial greetings given to Simone by the resident pod of mermaids were concluded, Aurora motioned for Simone to follow her. Though she and the currently absent Nadina were certified sign language instructors, most mermaids did not stay at the resort long enough to become truly fluent in the language, so she and the others relied primarily on gestures and other means to get messages across to one another. One of those means was now standing on the footbridge which straddled the channel leading to the tunnel which Simone had minutes ago used to exit the pool in which she had regained consciousness and first appreciated that she was indeed now a mermaid.
